Couverture

Avant-garde surrealist magazine, Minotaure presents an eclectic set of covers among which that of Dalí distinguishes itself by its literary topos. Representing an original anthropomorphic being, half-woman and half-bull/wolf, this Minotaur displays an interweaving of mythological and Dalian themes, as well as a commingling of techniques, « oil painting and collage on cardboard ». The design stems from a preparatory study that also became the matrix for many subsequent bronzes, thus allowing this Minotaur to enter into modernity and to express itself in three dimensions. This article intends to explore the questions this collage puts into play by highlighting its various degrees of artistic mise en abyme and its usurpations of artistic media, as well as the different artifacts it has produced.

Keywords : Savador Dalí — modernity — surrealism — anthropomorphism — pasting
